Bored of lockdown life and studying? Then take some time out and explore what Vauxhall has to offer. In recent months we’ve already blogged about taking a walk along the Thames and four different experiences to be had in and around Vauxhall but what else is there to do in the local area? Within 25 minutes you can walk to one of Europe’s biggest regeneration projects; Battersea Power Station.
Battersea Power Station.
Built-in the 1930’s the power station at its peak, produced a fifth of London’s power including powering the likes of Buckingham Palace and the House of parliament. And continued to generate electricity up to 1983 when it was awarded listed building status.
From the ’80s to 2012 the station was left to ruin and at one stage looked like it was to be demolished (in between plans to use it as an indoor theme park and a new stadium for Chelsea FC! But in 2012 the current owners purchased the 41-acres site to create a community including homes, shops, cafes, restaurants, cultural and open spaces.
Fast forward to 2021 and now you can explore the area to your heart’s content and enjoy amazing food, drink and shopping venues.
